<div class="JBMCode"> Luke Thompson is an English Language teacher from London but now he teaches English at a university in Paris, while working on other projects including Luke’s English Podcast. He started Luke’s English Podcast in 2009. He is also a stand-up comedian, which means that he likes to stand up in front of audiences of people, and make them laugh.  <br /><br />

He has experience of teaching courses in business English, academic English, legal English, general English and English for exam courses like FCE, IELTS and BEC.  <br /><br />

He graduated from Liverpool John Moore’s University in 1999 with a BA Hons degree in Media and Cultural Studies. He worked at various media production companies before going into English language teaching. He took his CELTA in 2001 and then his Higher Diploma in English Language Teaching to Adults (DELTA) in 2006 at UCL. <br /><br />

He writes a lot of ELT materials, and he develops a lot of courses in business English and EAP. He has written original courses for English for the Pharmaceutical Industry, English for the Oil and Gas Industries and English for Journalists, as well as communication skills workshops in presentations, meetings and negotiations. He is a semi-published author with some of his work being used in materials publications in several countries.</div> <br /> <br />

DJ Kool Herc fue el primero en destacar la parte instrumental de un disco para enfatizar las partes de percusión o 'breaks'. A esa técnica revolucionaria la llamó 'Merry-Go-Round' (tiovivo).  <br /><br />

A Grand Wizzard Theodore se le considera el inventor del scratching. Dice que inventó la técnica en su infancia, un día que su madre le pidió que bajara el volumen de un disco y él lo paró con la mano. <br /><br />

The Sequence fue el primer trío femenino de hip-hop. Su tema 'Funk You Up' fue uno de los primeros éxitos del hip-hop estrenados por la discográfica Sugar Hill, pionera del género, a finales de los setenta. <br /><br />

El club Disco Fever, de Sal Abbatiello, en el sur del Bronx, se convirtió en un centro neurólgico donde tocaron las primeras estrellas del hip-hop, como Lovebug Starski, RUN DMC y Kurtis Blow. <br /><br />

Caz fue uno de primeros artistas del hip-hop que se presentaron como DJ y MC. También fue cofundador de la legendaria banda de hip-hop 'The Cold Crush Brothers'. <br /><br />

Richard Colón, conocido como 'Crazy Legs', fue uno de los primeros 'B-boys' (o 'break boys') del Bronx. A él se le atribuye el haber creado pasos de breakdance tales como la 'W' y el 'Windmill'. <br /><br />

En 1984, Roxane Shantó, de 14 años, grabó 'Roxanne's Revenge' ('La venganza de Roxanne'), uno de los primeros grandes éxitos del hip-hop con una MC femenina. El tema era una respuesta musical a 'Roxanne, Roxanne', del trío de rap masculino UTFO. <br /><br />

Grandmaster Flash es un pionero en las técnicas de mezcla. A él se deben el 'cueing' (una escucha previa de las pistas antes de reproducirlas) y el 'phasing' (la manipulación de la velocidad de los tocadiscos para adecuarse al ritmo de los temas). <br /><br />

El video de 'Rockbox', de RUN DMC, fue el primer video de hip-hop que apareció en la MTV, y logró acercar el género a nuevos públicos. El tema presentaba el híbrido de rap y rock que la banda usó luego en otro de sus hits, 'Walk This Way'. <br /><br />

Como fundadora y CEO de Sugar Hill Records, Sylvia Robinson produjo algunos de los primeros éxitos comerciales del hip-hop, como 'Rapper's Delight', de Sugar Hill Gang, y 'The Message', de Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five.</div> <br /> <br />

More than for most subjects, history is the key to language, because the very fabric of a language – its vocabulary, its grammar, its spelling, and so on – is a living record of its past. Why do we sometimes have a wide choice of words to express more or less the same thing? And what is to blame for the chaotic English spelling?
